Raising Children Welcome!

By · Comments (0)

Every new parent has challenges to face that they had never thought to come up before. No one remembers how they worried their parents when they were young, and when the time comes for them to raise their own children they are often overwhelmed with the problems that arise. Raising children is not something you can just blindly go into, but it is also not something that you can do just by reading up on the subject.

There are a lot of gray areas when raising a child, and sometimes you will never be sure that you have made all the right choices with your young one. The way you handle situations will be the basis for how they grow up — this is something that no parent wants to make a mistake in. Everyone wants the perfect child, but no one is going to get it. After all, children are human too and they have their own wants, needs and personalities that you need to consider.

There are several ways you can up your parenting skills, with most of those ways revolving around reading or receiving advice and figuring out how to incorporate it into your lives. Though getting advice can be a huge help, a good portion of what works best is going to lie in the “Eureka!” category — as in it is knowledge that you would only be able to gain through first-hand experience. Often this is the best type of “advice” you can get.

Quotes About Raising Children

Sometimes the best advice can simply be something said by someone else. Quotes can be used to motivate, teach and simply inspire. Though a quote is not going to give you direct advice most of the time, it can do much more than simply give you some straight information. Never turn down advice when it comes to raising children, as even if you do not agree with it you can still use it to your advantage.

Parents looking for quotes about raising children can find books and websites full of quotes to live, learn or be uplifted by. How you take them is up to you, as some can be vague; however, improving your care of and relationship with your child may improve simply by taking some nuggets of wisdom to heart.

Though there are endless quotes to be found and learned from. The following quotes are such a small percentage of what you can find to read that you may not believe — but even just a few can go a long way to imparting some much needed wisdom into your parenting. Remember that every parent has their share of troubles, and many of yours may not be so earth shattering or unique.

“If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders.” – Abigail Van Buren

“If you have never been hated by your child you have never been a parent.” – Bette Davis

“What a child doesn’t receive he can seldom later give.” – P.D. James

“Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.” – Robert Fulghum

“We inevitably doom our children to failure and frustration when we try to set their goals for them” – Dr. Jess Lair

Raising Confident Children

Surely you remember a time from when you were young and full of confidence. You would say what you thought, looked at the world with bright eyes, and were eager to have fun and learn. Raising your child to be confident can be tough depending on a huge range of factors, but in general it can simply come down to encouraging them in the things they are interested in and keeping things positive.

One thing that has what might have the largest effect when raising confident children is how well the parents encourage them when they achieve something. This can be something small like naming something correctly, or can be a big stepping stone achievement — it all depends on the circumstances. Ensuring that your child’s sense of confidence is intact throughout young childhood and into adolescence will get them on the right foot to gain goals and seek to reach them. It will also help them in being more friendly, social, open, and mentally open.

An effective way to steadily give your child confidence is to allow them to try new things on their own, as opposed to with your direct help. Some guidance might help, but if they can figure something out on their own and do it successfully their confidence will be even more bolstered. If they do something on their own that they were not able to before, be sure to give them as much praise as possible to make that achievement even more special. This is often the best secret to raising children with confidence.

Vitamins For Toddlers

By · Comments Comments Off

Are you concerned with your toddler’s nutrition? There are vitamins for toddlers which can only be bought with your pediatrician’s prescription. These vitamins normally have fluoride in them to aid in tooth health.

You should have a conversation with your pediatrician regarding vitamin use. There are many child advocates who are on both sides of the argument. Some people want to give their toddlers vitamins and some don’t. Most pediatricians have no problem giving vitamins to toddlers.

If you decide to buy vitamins for your child, there are things to be aware of. You should carefully evaluate the company that supplies the vitamins you intend to purchase. I would go with strictly organic sources that originate in the USA. Please beware of companies that say “distributed in the USA”. That’s just another way of saying that the vitamins can come from any place and they are distributed here. Read More→

Baby Wipes – Convenient and Indespensable

By · Comments Comments Off

Let’s face it, babies are so cute and sweet and really, really messy. As an adult, I went my whole life before children without using a single baby wipe. In fact, I did not know how much I needed them until baby came along.

Baby wipes come in all sorts of scents and thicknesses. I personally like unscented thick wipes that will not tear and leave you with baby’s mess on your hands.

Changing diapers is so much harder without baby wipes. They are convenient and fast. Just wipe and go. Even though there are no babies in our house, the baby wipes are here to stay. There’s  a box in every bathroom in the house. There’s also a box in each car we have. You never know when you’ll need a quick clean after checking tire pressure or oil level or anything that can get messy.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

By · Comments Comments Off

Not many video game series have as long of a history as that of Zelda, and the most recent addition to the series, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is just as solid of an entry to the series as the rest. As the last entry of the series on the Wii, Skyward Sword makes full use of the console’s unique controller. The engaging storyline, puzzles, and combat all make this a popular game among children, teenagers, and adults. The Zelda series may be older than your teen might be, but Skyward Sword is as modern of a game as they come and shows that Nintendo still stands as one of the best developers today.

This Section Is About Teenagers!

By · Comments Comments Off

This is the teenager section of our website. This age is an age of great personal challenges for you and your child. That sweet little boy or girl may now be a surly teen quick to temper and may even be talking or even screaming back at you.

How do we best address the challenges of this difficult time? A teenager’s behavior can be frustrating and even incomprehensible to us. We are very far removed from the experience of a modern teenager. The reason for this is partly due to a rapidly evolving technological society that is just now coming to grips with the impact modern technology is having on our lives.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. How many of you as parents growing up preferred to send a text to your friends instead of face to face communications? Well, speak up! That’s right, NONE of you raised your hands! Why is that? It’s simple, the reason is that we did not have cell phones or texting! All of this is new and it’s affecting our children!

Most of us do not fully comprehend the reach of technology. The new technology strips us of virtually all privacy. Teenagers don’t understand the ramifications of this exposure. Each and every day I see parents posting images taken with their cell phones online. What they don’t realize is that the extended data in that image often contains GPS data pinpointing the EXACT location the picture was taken at. What are the implications of the whole world knowing what you look at and where you and your children live?

How about facebook? Every day teens are posting risque pictures of themselves on their facebook pages. Not only are they posting pictures, but they’re posting their social itinerary, letting everyone know where they are going and where they’ll be at any given moment. Sometimes there is such a thing as too much sharing. I’ve even seen a list of friend’s phone numbers on their pages. Even if you are careful, even if your teen is careful, you still have exposure through friends who just don’t know better.

The world is a wonderful and terrifying place. As parents, we need to walk the line between permissiveness and protectiveness and we have the unenviable job of drawing that line.
